1. Genesis 2:24 “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GEN.2.KJV Key number one: The couple needs to establish their OWN home away from their parents!(This isn’t to say that if a parent truly needs to be cared for that they should abandon them. NO! We need to care for our parents as they cared for us, and even if they didn’t!)
2. Exodus 20:14 “Thou shalt not commit adultery. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/EXO.20.KJV Key number two: Keep yourself for your spouse ONLY. The grass really isn’t any greener on the other side of the fence; there’s just a different set of weeds!
3. Psalm 127:1 “Except the LORD build the house, They labour in vain that build it: Except the LORD keep the city, The watchman waketh but in vain.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/PSA.127.KJV Key number three (really should be number one): Put God first in your lives, your spouse comes second, THEN your children.
4. Proverbs 15:1 “A soft answer turneth away wrath: But grievous words stir up anger. 32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: But he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/PRO.15.KJV Key number four: learn to do your fighting on your knees, not with each other.
5. Matthew 19:5 “and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/MAT.19.KJV Key number five: God hates divorce. That being said, He does not expect anyone to stay in a dangerous relationship.
6. 1 Corinthians 13:4 “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things 11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1CO.13.KJV Key numbers six and seven: Charity in this instance is defined as love. Have the fruits of the Spirit. (see Galatians 5:22 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GAL.5.KJV) Verse eleven speaks to putting away childish things when one becomes an adult. To see a grown, capable man, sitting at home playing video games instead of working to support his family is an insult to God. (see next verse)
7. 1 Timothy 5:8 “But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1TI.5.KJV
8. Ephesians 5:21 “submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/EPH.5.KJV A lot of women chafe at the idea of the word submit. Some men use this text to be mean to their wives and demand obedience to harsh commands. Key number eight: Verse 21 says to submit to each other and verse 25 admonishes the husband to love as Jesus loves. When used correctly, these verses will create a happy home environment.
9. 1 Peter 3:1 “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives; 2 while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1PE.3.KJV Key number nine: An unconverted spouse can be won to Jesus when you follow God’s plan. Pray for your spouse.
10. Hebrews 13:4 “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/HEB.13.KJV Key number ten: There is a judgment day coming. Whatever you think you are doing in secret, WILL come to light, if not now in eternity.
