Ten Texts About Death

1. Genesis 2:7 “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GEN.2.KJV Dust plus the breath of God equals a living soul.

2. Genesis 3:4 “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GEN.3.KJV Satan’s lie is that we won’t surely die. Only two people, out of trillions and trillions of people have only ever been translated to heaven without seeing death, Enoch and Elijah. Everybody else who has ever lived, has or will die, unless Jesus comes back first.

3Job 27:3 “All the while my breath is in me, And the spirit of God is in my nostrils;” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JOB.27.KJV The spirit that goes back to God when a person dies is the breath that God put there in the beginning of our lives. It is not a conscience being.

4. Ecclesiastes 9:5 “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ECC.9.KJV

5. Psalm 6:5 “For in death there is no remembrance of thee:

In the grave who shall give thee thanks?”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/PSA.6.KJV You would think that if a person went to heaven at death that they would be giving God thanks and remembering him.

6. Psalm 115:17 “The dead praise not the LORD, Neither any that go down into silence.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/PSA.115.KJV

7. Acts 2:29 “Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. 34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ACT.2.KJV King David, a man after God’s own heart, is not in heaven! (Acts 13:22 “And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ACT.13.KJV)

8. John 11:11 “These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. 12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. 13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. 14Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. 23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. 24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JHN.11.KJV Lazarus did not go to heaven, and he had been a good friend of Jesus. Martha understood that in the last day, at the resurrection she would see Lazarus again. What is the resurrection for if people are already in heaven?

9. And now my favorite verses in all the Bible: 1 Thessalonians 4:13 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are  asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1TH.4.KJV

10. 1 Timothy 6:15 “which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1TI.6.KJV Only God is immortal!
