Ten Texts About the Commandments

 1. Exodus 31:18 “And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/EXO.31.KJV God wrote the ten commandments with his own finger in stone.

2Psalm 111:7 “The works of his hands are verity and judgment; All his commandments are sure. 8 They stand fast for ever and ever, And are done in truth and uprightness.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/PSA.111.KJV

3Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. 21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: 22 but I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/MAT.5.KJV Jesus magnified the law; he did not do away with it.

4. Romans 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. 15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ROM.6.KJV

5. 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1JN.3.KJV If there were no law, there would be no sin.

6. Romans 13:10 “Love worketh no ill to his neighbourtherefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ROM.13.KJV The first four commandments tell us how to love God and the last six teach us how to love our neighbors.

7. Proverbs 28:9 “He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law,

Even his prayer shall be abomination.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/PRO.28.KJV

8. Ecclesiastes 12:13 “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ECC.12.KJV What would God base his judgment on if there were no law?

9. John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JHN.14.KJV Jesus came to show us how to keep the law. He said if we love him to keep his law.

10. Revelation 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”  https://www.bible.com/bible/1/REV.14.KJV When Jesus was here on earth, he was in constant communication with God the Father. By this means he was able to perfectly keep God’s laws. If we want to be one of the “saints” in heaven, we ought to follow Jesus' example.
