First day texts in the Bible

Genesis 1:5 “And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GEN.1.KJV Matthew 28:1 “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. https://www.bible.com/bible/1/MAT.28.KJV Mark 16:1 “And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/MRK.16.KJV Luke 24:1 “Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/LUK.24.KJV John 20:1 “The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JHN.20.KJV Acts 20:7 “And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight. 11 When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten, and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed. 25 And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ACT.20.KJV This was actually a Sabbath night (Saturday night) meeting because Paul would start his trip on Sunday; and because the Sabbath begins and ends at sundown, not at midnight like we do today. Paul would not begin a journey on the Sabbath day. Leviticus 23:32 “It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/LEV.23.KJV 1 Corinthians 16:1 “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1CO.16.KJV Paul didn’t want anyone to work on the Sabbath so he suggested that people lay aside their offerings on the first day of the week so that WHEN he came there would be no scurrying about to collect an offering for it would already have been done. Nowhere in these scriptures is there any evidence that God commanded them to worship on the first day of the week. Nor is there any evidence anywhere that the disciples themselves worshipped on the first day of the week or made any changes to God’s law. Jesus said, in Matthew 15:3 “But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/MAT.15.KJV The keeping of Sunday is based solely on tradition and not on the Bible. For there is NO biblical text for the change from God’s original law anywhere from Genesis to Revelation.

People use the following three texts to indicate that somehow God’s law has been done away with. Colossians 2:14 “blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 15 and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it. 16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17 which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. https://www.bible.com/bible/1/COL.2.KJV The “Shadow of things to come” was the sacrificial system which Jesus came to fulfill. We don’t sacrifice sheep because Jesus is our sacrifice. Galatians 3:23 “But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GAL.3.KJV Romans 14:5 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eatetheateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/ROM.14.KJV Paul is talking about the feasts of the Jewish nation and things sacrificed to idols not God’s holy law nor the laws of clean or unclean foods. Paul, the apostle, wrote both Galatians and Colossians and Paul says in Galatians 1:9 “As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GAL.1.KJV If anyone changes God’s Word in any way they are cursed. Not even God can change His laws.

What is sin? 1 John 3:4 “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1JN.3.KJV If there were no law, there would be no sin. 1 John 2:4 “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/1JN.2.KJV James 2:10 “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. 12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JAS.2.KJV James 4:17 “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/JAS.4.KJV

The “new Covenant” according to the Bible is this: Hebrews 8:10 “For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel After those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, And write them in their hearts: And I will be to them a God, And they shall be to me a people:” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/HEB.8.KJV (note: anyone who follows Jesus is now considered spiritual Israel.) Hebrews 10:16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, And in their minds will I write them;” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/HEB.10.KJV

Some of the last words in the Bible are found in Revelation 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/REV.14.KJV Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/REV.22.KJV God’s commandments begin in Genesis 2:1 “Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/GEN.2.KJV You may search the whole Bible and never find where God or his disciples changed the law of God.  Indeed, it is the anti-Christ power that thinks to change God’s laws. Daniel 7:25 “And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.” https://www.bible.com/bible/1/DAN.7.KJV You have a choice: follow God and His laws or the anti-Christ and his laws, but only those who follow God’s laws will be in His kingdom.
